Update on race results and club standards

Hey all,

I've been meaning to update you on some issues with the club website relating to race results.

The headline: most areas of the website that show race results are now broken following the launch of the new Power of 10 website. If you want to claim a Club Standards Award, you'll now need to log in and fill in the form.

The full picture...

If you didn't already know, over the years I've built integrations with Power of 10 so that BPJ race results were automatically synced with the club website. This powered:

  • Race results for club members, including club standards achieved, race history and rankings
  • Club records, fully automated and split by event, gender and age category
  • Personal bests, highlighted on the home page
  • Club Standards Award certificates, automatically generated so you could log in and see which awards you'd earned

Earlier this year, Power of 10 shut down their old website while they rebuilt it, which stopped all of the above from working.

When the new site eventually launched (and it's had a fair bit of criticism!), access to the underlying data was also locked down, preventing tools like mine from accessing it. I did manage to work around this for a short time, so you may see some newer results on the BPJ website up to August, but they have now well and truly locked it down.

Unfortunately, this means a lot of the race-related functionality on the website is currently unusable.

I've tried, currently without success, to get in touch with Power of 10 and I'll also try to escalate this to England Athletics, although I don't hold out much hope!

In the meantime, I've rebuilt the Club Standards Award claim system. So, although it now requires a little manual effort, you can log in and claim an award by entering the qualifying races. This will then be sent for verification.

Jon Phillips has kindly offered to carry on doing the verification, as he did before I automated the process.
